The classic southern drink of Bourbon and Coke lends its unmistakable flavor to help take these Swedish style meatballs to the next level. Sugar+Spice+Bourbon= pure awesomeness. Be careful you don't become addicted to these. They are that good. Seriously. (PS. I think it's the nutmeg.)
Bourbon & Coke Glaze
Preheat oven to 400°F.
Gently and thoroughly mix together meat, egg, breadcrumbs, and all seasonings and spices until well combined. Form the mixture into medium sized balls (slightly smaller than a golf ball) and place on a parchment-paper- lined or well-greased baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes. Flip meatballs and cook for another 5-10 minutes. When ready, remove meatballs from the oven and set aside.
In a saucepan, bring brown sugar, Coca-Cola, and Bourbon to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook for 7-10 minutes, stirring often, until the mixture gets thick and viscous. Place the meatballs in the brown sugar and coke/bourbon mixture and toss until well coated and glazed. This should take about 3-5 minutes. Remove from pan. Serve hot.
